April 15 marks a “quiet period” across the state of Michigan. Yes, this is the day all of our accountant friends can take a breather from the frantic rush of tax season. But, for those of us that like to get out and run our dog in the woods, it is the time to take a break and leave the wild birds to their breeding rituals. Kind of like putting a “do not disturb” sign on the uplands across the state.
That being the case, I decided to head out last Saturday and get one more run out of the dog. I was really hoping to find a couple straggler woodcock in the usual places, but to no avail. We were able to get out and enjoy the pre budding spring day, and get some ground cover practice in, though. No pictures of flushing woodies, but that’s ok.
